On August 21, 2024, the 6th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation & China-Africa Think Tank High-Level Dialogue was held in Beijing. On the eve of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the 6th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation, with the theme of “Join Hands in the Paths towards Modernization”, brought together representatives of the competent departments of the Central African government and think tanks, relevant international organizations, media, and enterprises in the radio and television sector. Discussions at the forum focused on such topics as “Win-Win Cooperation: Shaping a New Outlook for the Strong Synergy Between the Belt and Road Initiative and African Union’s Agenda 2063” and “Co-Progress of Innovation: Jointly Promoting the Digital Empowerment for the New Development of Media in China and Africa”.

Zhang Li, President of the China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID), was invited to attend the sub-forum on “Win-Win Cooperation: Shaping a New Outlook for the Strong Synergy Between the Belt and Road Initiative and African Union’s Agenda 2063” and delivered a keynote speech. Mr. Zhang said that the connection between the Belt and Road Initiative and the AU Agenda 2063 serves as an important opportunity to promote the leapfrog development of the industrial sector in African countries. CCID is willing to continue to give full play to its bridging role and maintain regular exchanges with African think tanks, so as to make greater contributions to the promotion of South-South cooperation and safeguard the common interests of the “Global South”.

The Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation is one of the institutional activities under the framework of FOCAC, which is held once every two years. The 6th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation & China-Africa Think Tank High-Level Dialogue marks the first time for the forum to bring in think tanks as its audience. It was co-hosted by the National Radio and Television Administration, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and the African Union of Broadcasting and jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau and China-Africa Institute.
